Battambang is the second largest city in Cambodia and located in one of the biggest rice-growing areas in Southeast Asia. For this full-day join-in bicycle tour, we will explore and enjoy Battambang countryside! Get to know the lives of local villagers, experience authentic local delicacies, and have a chance to explore an old temple built in the 11th century.
What to Expect
First up, we’ll pick you up and assemble to get your bikes fitted and have a safety briefing. We’ll then bike to a local local memorial site dedicated to Khmer Rouge victims and you’ll get to learn more about this difficult period of Cambodia’s history and its effect on modern day Cambodia’s history. On our next stop, we’ll pay a visit to a bamboo rice cake shop and find out more about the processes to make this special delicacy and you may get to sample this treat. Next up is a local fish paste market which smell may overwhelm some but it’ll still be fascinating to find out more about the fishing culture and how the community relies heavily on the seas of its sustenance. Traverse through Donteay Village, famous for rice paper production and learn about local banana agriculture, observe the making of rice wine which is used for medicinal and recreational purposes. Next up, we will visit a local noodle maker. Here, you’ll learn about another important staple in Cambodian cuisine – noodles. We’ll have lunch and a break and head to a 11th-century temple which is approximately 7 kilometers away from the city. Ek Phnom temple is an interesting stop to learn about Cambodian ancient times before Angkor Empire. In Battambang countryside, paddy fields are spread almost everywhere and our local guides will help explain to you clearly about rice agriculture. Take into the fresh airs on the field and enjoy taking photos of the stunning view of rice field before heading back to the city.
